프랑스 절대왕정의 시기, 루이 15세 시절, 오스칼은 마리 앙투아네트의 근위대장으로 일하게 된다. 마리 앙투아네트는 페르젠이라는 장교와 사랑에 빠지게 되는데 페르젠이 미국으로 떠나자 왕비는 그리움을 지우려고 무도회에 도박에 사치를 부린다. 사치와 귀족들의 모략으로 왕실은 점점 국민의 미움을 받게 되고 이는 곧 1789년, 프랑스 대혁명으로 번지는데....과연 이들의 운명은?
