할아버지 댁에 놀러 온 여섯 살 소녀 '호타루'가 요괴들이 사는 산신령의 숲에서 길을 잃습니다. 그곳에서 인간에게 닿으면 사라져 버리는 신비한 존재 '긴'을 만나게 되고, 긴의 도움으로 숲을 빠져나옵니다. 이후 호타루는 매년 여름방학마다 숲을 찾아 긴과 시간을 보내며 우정을 쌓고, 성장하면서 애틋한 감정을 느끼게 되는 이야기
